The battery is occasionally referred to as either the Drew Light Artillery or "Drew's Battery", based on the units association with Drew County, Arkansas, but these references only appear in post war pension records and other articles. She leaves to cherish her memories her life partner Vernell Battle,Jr. She is preceded in death by her Grandmother Lula Mae Jones with whom she shared a very special bond. On Sunday night, September 17, 2017, the Lord called Genice home, giving her rest from suffering. Kamauri went home on August 13, after spending over a month with her grandparents. One of Genice’s greatest joys was when her granddaughter would come to spend time with her during the summer. Everyone knew to “CALL GENICE” to answer the questions. ![]() She was the go to person for trivia questions regarding sports, who’s who, actors, actresses, etc. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching TV. She would often call just to say “I love you“. She loved talking with and keeping in touch with her relatives and friends. She touched the lives of everyone she came in contact with in a loving positive way. Genice was a warm and caring person and was loved by many. Due to her illness, she was forced to an early disability retirement in April, 2011. When the Support Staff Position became available in 1998, Genice applied and being the best qualified was promoted to Principal Clerk II, Support Staff Supervisor. She was encouraged by her Supervisor and mentor to learn all of the support staff positions in Central Trial, and she did. Because she was a quick learner, dedicated to doing her job and often helping others, she promoted to the top of the Legal Secretary positions to Legal Secretary II and III. During a very short period of time Genice was promoted to a Legal Secretary I position. She began working as a Legal Clerk II on February 28, 1984. While looking for employment, she was sent to the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office to apply for a position in the Central Trials Section of the Criminal Division and was hired by City Attorney Mary House. Together they have a blended family of three, Kamesha (Sister), Cameron, and Dyetra (Pruddi). In 1981, they moved to Dallas, Texas and from there to Los Angeles, CA in 1983. while he was attending college in Arkansas. In 1977 she met the love of her life, Vernell Battle, Jr. Genice attended Capital City Junior College of Business in Little Rock, Arkansas where she received an Associate of Arts Degree in Business Administration. During her high school years, she enjoyed being a member of the school’s Cheerleaders. She was educated in the public schools in Monticello, graduating from Monticello High School in 1979. She accepted Christ at an early age, was baptized and united with First Missionary Baptist Church, in Monticello, Arkansas. Genice Jones was born Novemto Joe Lynn Jones and Calvin White.
